  • Hannah is interested in the mental health and wellbeing of older adults, and the factors that influence this.
  • The PhD will examine how social class impacts on the ability of people with dementia and their carers to live well.
  • Hannah aims to use a qualitative research methodology, which will include in-depth interviews and a potential ethnographic approach.

Rachel Clarke (University of Sussex)

Research Topic: Sustaining well-being in carers who remain in the workforce
Research Supervisor: Dr Henglien Lisa Chen, Professor Jennifer Rusted

  • Rachel is interested in understanding the factors associated with sustainable psychological wellbeing in family carers of a person with dementia who are maintaining employment alongside the caring role.
  • Rachel will utilise a mix of qualitative and quantitative methods, underpinned by multi-disciplinary research such as: psychology, social care, social policy, and anthropology.
  • The findings will be complemented by a comparison of the factors associated with psychological wellbeing taken from the larger IDEAL study.
